I’m building BioFigR as a side project — for researchers who need help turning their biological data into figures and insights.

Right now, I work full-time as an account manager, supporting NGS projects across Ireland. I help clients plan sequencing runs, interpret service offerings, and manage expectations around quality and turnaround. It’s fast-paced and commercially focused — and I’ve learned a lot from it.

But what I miss is working with the data itself.

​

Before joining industry, I spent over eight years in academic research. I did my PhD in microbiology at UCC and held several postdoc and research support roles, mainly focused on the human gut microbiome and phage genomics. During that time, I supervised students, coordinated multi-partner projects, presented at international conferences, and co-authored papers. I also ran outreach sessions for schools and contributed to expert working groups for the ICTV and WHO.

In every role, I kept seeing the same pattern: people have data, but they don’t have time — or tools — to deal with it. They’re not sure how to run stats, generate clean figures, or make the results publication-ready.

That’s what BioFigR is for.

​

It’s not a big company. It’s just me, working to offer simple, practical help — from CSVs and count tables to polished plots and reports. Over time, I plan to develop and grow.

For now, it’s early days. But the goal is clear: to help researchers turn biological data in a scientific story
